PRESIDENT JOKOWI COMMENCES “KOMODO 2016” IN MAIN NAVAL BASE II PADANG

Spectacular events will be organized by Indonesian Navy that called as “Komodo 2016” in Padang and Mentawai Island, West Sumatera. President Republic of Indonesia H. Joko Widodo opened the event on 12 April 2016 located in Main Naval Base II Padang, West Sumatera.
“Komodo 2016” is a series of activities where as a form of defense diplomacy in peacetime that directed at understanding tolerance and transparency among Navies. The event will be conducted from 12 to 16 April 2016. These activities include International Fleet Review (IFR) 2016, 15 th Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), and 2nd Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo or Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2016.
Followed by 35 countries, all participants Navies will collaborate to conduct humanitarian aid mission training scenarios such as Medical Civic Action Project (Medcap) and Engineering Civic Action Project (Encap), also Maritime Peace Keeping Operation (MPKO).
At this time around, President Jokowi also conducted inauguration of a monument “peace dove” aligned with Komodo 2016 that focus on Maritime Peace Keeping Operation (MPKO) di Muaro Lasak Park. The inauguration of the monument is marked by siren and signing inscription together with deliverance hundred pigeon.
International Fleet Review (IFR) was not only showing warship parade but also strung together with various interaction among Navies personnel such as rowing race (selaju sampan), beach soccer, culinary festival called as Marandang, city parade, fun bike, gala dinner, dance and band performance, maritime exhibition, cultural dinner and also city tour.
Western Pasific Naval Symposium (WPNS) is one of important forum to realize maritime partnership for stability in Western Pacific Region. Confirmed 27 countries will attend the event and conduct on 13-14 April 2016 in Inna Muara hotel, Padang, West Sumatera.
